New gardener registration is held on March 25 at the Northampton Recreation Department (now in their new location at 100 Bridge Road on the JFK school grounds) from 10 am to noon. As there are usually a few more applicants than available plots, people do come early to stand in line. (We also maintain a waiting list, and most folks on the list do get a plot.)
Each plot is roughly 20 x 20 feet; first-year gardeners are limited to a single plot. The plot fee is $22, with discounts available for receiving the Garden Newsletter on the Web and for maintaining a compost pile within the plot. The Garden furnishes water (there are 12 outlets distributed throughout the garden, with attached hoses), and community tools (spades, shovels, rakes, hoes, etc.). Rock dust and wood chips are available to gardeners without charge.
